Tips from a Morning Person

Anyone who knows me knows I am a morning person – always have been! I love waking up early and enjoying a cup of coffee while the rest of the world is still quiet. On weekdays, my mornings are a bit busier, but I still love getting up and starting the day early. These are a few tips I wanted to share on how I make mornings easier!

Do as much as you can the night before.

I try and get as much ready as I can the night before – setting out my coffee cup, making sure my lunch and work bag are packed, trying to at least semi-plan my outfit for the next day – it just makes for such an easy start. You aren’t running around the morning of looking for papers you may have left upstairs, or wondering if you remembered to bring your work computer back from your desk.

Early bedtime.

As much of a morning person I am, I am as enthusiastic about early bedtimes. I typically am in bed by 9 and it doesn’t take me long to fall asleep. Going to bed earlier definitely makes it easier to wake up earlier because you’ve gotten a full night’s sleep.

Nighttime routine.

Depending on my mood, I like to shower at night. I find this really helps with relaxation, but goes along with trying to do as much as I can the night before. Showering at night gives me more time in the morning, plus it gives my hair a break since I air dry it.

Before actually getting into bed, I try and give myself some time disconnected from the social media world – I light my Lavender Vanilla candle, and will either do yoga or read. I find both of these things are really good at helping me relax right before bed.

Set an alarm, and a time for you to get out of bed.

Every night, I turn my alarm on for the next day which goes off between 5:10 and 5:40. I use the app Sleep Cycle, and I really like it! The app gradually wakes you up in the morning within a set period of time (30 mins is my go to) to any music of your choosing by analyzing your sleep schedule and wakes you in the lightest sleep phase during that period of time you set. I find that makes waking up even easier (although I don’t really have a hard time waking up early to begin with) because it doesn’t scare you awake like a normal alarm at full volume!!

The next thing I do is set a time for myself to get out of bed – that’s 5:50 everyday. I don’t do it with an alarm. I do this so that I hold myself accountable to get out of bed on time and don’t waste a half hour after my alarm goes off laying in bed on Instagram, and then scrambling to get ready in time. I find these two things really help me get a jump start on my day.

Morning routine.

After my alarm goes off and I get out of bed, I keep my morning routine very straight forward: make a cup of coffee (this is an absolute must), feed Marshmallow, wash my face, brush my teeth, get ready – all of this takes me about 45 minutes to do which gives me time in the morning to do things around the house. By keeping my routine the same every morning (for weekdays, anyways) it makes it so much easier to start the day off right because it’s the exact same things I did the day before! And doing a few things every morning helps free up some time at night – if I unload the dishwasher (which takes less than 6 minutes), I no longer have to do it at night and can use those spared minutes for a good snuggle on the couch with P.

I hope my tips help you – let me know if you try any of them! Stay tuned for a more detailed post on my morning and nighttime routines!
